The Lorain Board of Education is fighting with the Ohio School Facilities Commission (full article here (http://www.morningjournal.com/site/index.cfm?newsid=19710809&BRD=1699&PAG=461&dept_id=566374&rfi=8)).

My questions is this...

Would Lorain residents either have the State help fund one brand-new high school...

OR, would Lorain resident rather keep the two existing high school buildings and recieve NO $ from the State?

It appears that the State has the Lorain School Board over a barrel!

I would suggest keeping the two schools for the following reason:
Not all high school students drive or have someone that is readily able to take them to school. Personally, I know that (in winter especially) I wouldn't want to have to walk all the way across Lorain to go to school.

But if they did go to one high school, they'd have to create bus routes to make sure that everyone got there. I doubt anyone in the Homewood area would be forced to walk across town.

And that's enough of a reason to pass up state money? That is the type of backward thinking that makes Lorain the stagnated city it is.

Having two high schools in Lorain is something that does not fit in the future of Lorain. The population is declining and so is the schools enrollment. The citizens of Lorain are just thinking about the schools right now, they are not thinking about 5, 10 or 30 years from now. Does the school district student population justify two high schools? I think not, I feel that one school is the answer in Lorain. One school that can unite the community, a magnificent new school which can be at the center of Lorain Schools resurrection. My belief is that one high school is the most logical thing to do! Also they speak of problems in schools etc, discipline the students and if they choose not to follow the rules, show them the door. If we have strong disciplined, united schools the community attitude and it’s reflection from the outside will change. “Reflection of a community is based upon its school system”.
