Haslage.Net and the International Federation of Trekkers (http://www.iftcommand.com/), both based in Lorain County, are looking to garner interest in creating a virtual Lorain, OH on SecondLife (http://secondlife.com/whatis/).
There is potential for businesses to acquire new customers through this new technology in addition to being able to hold virtual meetings. SecondLife allows for users to create an avatar and communicate via voice or text. In addition, SecondLife allows for streaming audio and video for presentations or entertainment. Downloading the program and joining SecondLife is free, but the acquisition of land is not.
For nearly two months IFT has been unsuccessfully attempting to obtain at least 1/8 region of land at no cost to itself in exchange for sponsorships. I am personally willing to manage the effort if it will garner IFT some space for its SL headquarters. I am open to discussion, ideas or interest. Thank you.
A Little History About IFT:
The International Federation of Trekkers (IFT) was co-created in 1984, by Gene Roddenberry and Russell Haslage Jr. in an attempt to create more than a Star Trek fan club. The goal was to create an organization that had the potential to make a difference in the world. Members would not only dress up and attend conventions, they would also help endeavors to preserve the environment and wildlife while spreading goodwill to others and encouraging changes to make a better future for everyone.
Today IFT has over four dozen active chapters (Over 55 Total) and over 500 active members (Over 2,000 Total) located around the world. While IFT is established in the real world, it has expended its branches in to the Internet. Its web site serves an average of 300,000 individuals each month. IFT also explores Internet locations such as the various science fiction game communities and SecondLife.
IFT is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit group based in Ohio, U.S.A. IFT is also a proud affiliate of Roddenberry.Com, the official Gene Roddenberry web site (http://www.roddenberry.com/), and Star Trek: Phase 2 (http://www.startrekphase2.com/), the continuation of the original five-year mission.
