Will the Maritime Museum really come to Lorain? I heard that they had to raise $3,000,000. That seems like a huge sum considering that the annual budget for the general fund for the entire City of Lorain is only like $25M!

Who in Lorain County has that kind of money?

Aren't there more important things to spend $3M on? I am a proponent of historical preservation, but there is a lot more that could be done with that kind of money!

That seems like a tall order to fill. If the people want this, the people would push for it. I certainly would like to see this myself.

I am still new to this town and I hate to be a spoiler, but considering how much history Lorain has, isn't just a Maritime Museum a tad bit narrow in focus?
Do we need an aquarium, some bed and breakfasts, and other waterfront attractions to make a museum of this sort a place to come to?
Maybe the various history orgs could combine efforts and house in one building, there would something for everyone.

Well, the museum's full name is the "Inland Seas" Maritime Museum, so Lorain's history is quite considerable in that context. The great lakes were criss-crossed by ships built in the old American Shipyards in Lorain; not to mention the several ships and boats in the armed forces named after our big little city. Not being arrogant or horn tooting, but Lorain's maritime history is nothing to sneeze at.

Beyond that, you can always take note of the other museums from around the region and country and see that museums also can deal with the future. New ships designs and engineering can be displayed and made interactive... really the pages are blank and the book is wide open.
