Just one day after being named to the American League All-Star team, Indians ace C.C. Sabathia earned AL Player of the Week honors on Monday on the heels of two vintage performances.
Sabathia, who hadn't won the award in his career, struck out 16 batters in 16 innings over two starts last week. He allowed two runs on nine hits in a complete-game victory over the A's on June 25, then surrendered three runs on six hits over seven innings against the Devil Rays. The 26-year-old lefty didn't walk a batter in either outing, keeping his impressive walk total at 17 in his 18 starts this season. Sabathia posted a 2.23 ERA in six starts during June, and over that span, he allowed just one home run and struck out 41 batters, second most in the AL. He is also the only pitcher in the Majors with 12 wins.
Wait a minute...the Tribe has a pitching core?
We might make a race for it all this year!
